Dewsbury Rams 30 Hunslet Hawks 18: Dewsbury handed relegation lifeline with win over Hunslet

Dewsbury Rams scored 24 second-half points to topple Hunslet 30-18 in this Co-operative Championship relegation battle.

The game was 6-6 at the break, with Michael Wainwright and Danny Ratcliffe trading tries, before scores from Liam Welham, Ayden Faal and Pat Walker, who also kicked seven goals, sealed things.

Ratcliffe and Paul March went in for Hunslet’s other tries.

Hunslet were all hustle and bustle at the start and their strong defence was rough and tough.

Player-coach Paul March drove over for a try from close-range, Jack Latus converting. On 31 minutes the Rams scored the try they needed when Wainwright dived in at the flag, Walker converting with a massive kick.

Within 10 minutes of the restart Walker had kicked two penalties and converted his own try.

From seeing the first 40 minutes produce only one try each we now had a regular spate of tries as Faal jumped high to collect a Dominic Brambani kick and plunge over.

Hunslet replied with two Ratcliffe tries, Latus converting both to cut the deficit to 20-18.
