Dewsbury v Wigan: Morrison says Warriors match is '˜win-win' situation for Rams

Injury-hit Rams have lost four of their last five games, the only win in that sequence being at home to League One side York City Knights in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.

They have tumbled to ninth in the Kingstone Press Championship and let a 20-point lead slip in the second half at Sheffield Eagles last week.

But coach Glenn Morrison described tomorrow’s sixth-round Cup tie as a “win-win” situation.

And he said: “Nobody expects us to win so we can work on what we need to do.

“If we put in the performance we can, we can come out with some positives and move forward in the league. But we are not going to make up the numbers, we are going to give it our best shot.”

Morrison said he has gone back to basics this week following the last-gasp loss to Sheffield.

“It was very disappointing,” he said. “I’ve backed the boys all the way through but that wasn’t good enough.

“I can’t accept what they did in the second half, it wasn’t anywhere near our standards and a few people will pay the price.

“The Cup is anybody’s game. I would have liked to have gone into it with a full-strength side and a team that’s been consistent and gelling well together but in saying that we beat Bradford in the Cup not too long ago with players out, so we know if we perform we can put in an effort and give ourselves a chance.

“We played them two years ago here and for 60 minutes we were right in the game, then fitness took its toll.

“If the boys play to their ability then we’re not just going to be on the field to make the numbers up.”

Wigan Warriors are still missing a host of players through injury. Coach Shaun Wane said: “It’s been very tough with nine to 10 first teamers out but it’s given opportunities to other players, which is pleasing and they have taken their chances and will benefit from the experience.

“We’re going to show Dewsbury the respect they deserve. They’re very well coached, they’re a good team, a big physical team and the pitch is very small which they use to their advantage.”
