Diskin is planning winning return to Headingley

Matt Diskin believes Bradford Bulls could be saving their best performance of the season for his first return to former club Leeds.

The ex-Great Britain hooker spent 12 seasons at Headingley before switching to their West Yorkshire rivals this season.

After winning Super League titles and World Club Challenges, he has endured a difficult start to life at Bradford, who are toiling in 10th spot.

There were some glimpses of class against Hull FC on Sunday but ultimately they fell to a disappointing 28-14 loss – their 10th so far.

Diskin said: “That sums up our year. We’ve shown flashes of real positive attributes but also some real poor ones.

“Getting the consistency together is something we’re struggling with but we are due to come up with a real solid 80 minutes and there’d be no better place to do so than at Headingley.”

Diskin, 29, has already faced his former side twice this season, scoring in the narrow opening-day loss in Cardiff and featuring when Bradford were similarly unlucky to fall at Odsal over Easter.

However, he concedes stepping out at his former stomping ground will be a different experience entirely.

“It is going to be quite surreal,” said Diskin. “I’m excited and nervous at the same time. I’ve played so much of my football there over the years.

“It will be good to get this monkey off our back, though, and get a win there.

Leeds are probably not achieving the high standards they have set themselves currently but they haven’t turned into bad players overnight and they’re still very dangerous.

“You can’t write them off but anyone can beat anyone in this league and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”

Bradford are bolstered by the return of ex-St Helens prop Bryn Hargreaves from an ankle injury but Leeds welcome back the elusive Ben Jones-Bishop following shoulder surgery.

Gareth Hock is therefore almost certainly going to face Huddersfield in the England second-row’s first game since completing a two-year drugs ban.

Leigh Centurions have been deducted three points after being found guilty of a technical breach of salary cap rules by a RFL operational rules tribunal.

It occurred during 2010, caused by the Championship club’s inability to reach anticipated levels of income, and the decision means Featherstone draw level with the leaders if they win at Barrow tonight.
