Donaldson is reaping benefits under Sheens

The Robins beat Mark Aston’s Sheffield side 50-10 a fortnight ago, but the Yorkshire rivals meet again tomorrow at KCOM Craven Park tomorrow in the Challenge Cup fourth round.

And former Bradford Bulls star Donaldson is eager to pile more pressure on the South Yorkshire club. The 25-year-old – who has five tries this season – feels he has improved as a player after working under Tim Sheens.

“I’m happy, but I still feel there’s bits in my game that I need to improve on,” Donaldson told Hull KR’s official matchday programme. “I’m definitely feeling the benefits of being coached by Tim and some of the ideas that he’s given me.

“He’s changed my game a bit and there’s things that I’m picking up on now that I wonder why I’ve not been doing all along. It’s simple stuff too, but it’s having a big impact and I’m feeling good in my game.

“I’m getting more minutes now and I’m looking forward to carrying that on and trying to get better every week.”

The new-look Eagles have struggled for results this season, but Aston has been impressed with the displays of Dane Chisholm.

He has been switched between full-back and half-back, but it’s the latter position where he can be more dangerous.

“He (Chisholm) has been absolutely outstanding at reading the game, at pushing and throwing people into the right areas” Aston said. “It has taken its toll at times because it is tough to do both jobs, but we just needed him there.”

Hull KR have secured the services of promising youngster Will Oakes, 18, after the England Academy international signed a new two-year contract extension.
