Doncaster 16 Swinton Lions 0: Doncaster keep out Swinton to earn win

Doncaster ended a run of four successive defeats with a professional performance based on discipline and defence.

Swinton had beaten the Dons twice earlier in the season and won at York in their last away match but made far too many mistakes to give themselves a chance of victory.

It was Doncaster's most impressive all-round display of the season and they could have won by a wider margin as they cleverly controlled the game.

Hooker Kyle Kesick gave Doncaster just the start they needed in the baking hot conditions when he touched down in the third minute.

Simon Brown had an off day with his place kicking and narrowly missed the conversion attempt as he did following three further tries.

But he atoned in the 11th minute when his pass put full-back Tommy Griffiths over in the corner to double the lead.

Doncaster kept their own errors to a minimum as they defended solidly for the rest of the half and rocked Swinton again early in the second period.

Sean Leaf touched down following a five-man passing move and rounded off a fine display with another try.

Swinton had two players sin-binned – Tommy Grundy and Ian Watson – to add to their misery as they failed to make any impression against a determined Doncaster team.
