Doncaster suffer but Cougars beat York

Rochdale Hornets secured a second-placed finish in Kingstone Press League One behind Toulouse following a 21-8 home win against Doncaster.

Ben Moores, Corey Lee, Danny Yates and Benjamin Jullien all went over for the Hornets, who secured their fourth straight win, while Paul Crook added two conversions and Danny Yates was successful with a drop goal.

It was the Hornets’ 12th win from 14 games this season ahead of the Top Eight fixtures.

Fourth-placed Doncaster were restricted to one touch down through Connor Scott, with Jordie Hedges kicking four points.

Keighley Cougars halted a three-game losing streak with a 34-28 win against third-placed York City Knights at Cougar Park.

Cougars centre Danny Lawton converted five of his side’s six tries, the second kick bringing up his 500th career point, with Andy Gabriel, Brendon Rawlins, Johnny Campbell (2), Ash Lindsay and James Feather all going over. York, who slipped to back-to-back defeats following a run of five straight wins, touched down through James Morland (2), Tommy Saxton, Andy Smith, Mark Applegarth and Sam Smeaton, while Danny Nicklas added two goals.

Hunslet Hawks secured their third straight win with a 35-30 home victory against North Wales Crusaders.

Hooker George Flanagan scored two tries for Hawks either side of half-time, while team-mates Daniel Williams, Michael Haley, Ayden Faal and Danny Ansell also went over. Simon Brown added five conversions and one drop goal.

Crusaders took a 12-0 lead through converted tries from Alex Thompson and Ryan Smith, while Andrew Oakden also went over in the first period.

Hunslet were 35-18 ahead on the hour-mark before Crusaders finished strongly.
