Family affair at World Cup PLUS all the confirmed squads

The Burgess brothers will not be the only siblings involved in the Rugby League World Cup, which promises to be a family affair when it gets under way later this month.

While England can line up established international Sam Burgess alongside his twin brothers Tom and George, their group opponents Fiji included three sets of brothers in their 24-man squad which was submitted to organisers ahead of Wednesday’s deadline.

They are Wes and Kevin Naiqama, Daryl and Ryan Millard and the trio of Ashton, Korbin and Tariq Sims which means that, in theory, there could be no fewer than 10 brothers on the field when England meet the Pacific Islanders at Hull on November 9.

England could also be facing brothers in the opening game on October 26, with Australia re-uniting identical twins Brett and Josh Morris, and they are expected to come up against the Grix brothers, Scott and Simon, when they take on Ireland at Huddersfield a week later.

Then there are the Evans boys from Bridgend, Ben and Rhys, who will appear together for Wales for the first time since they moved north to Warrington as teenagers, and could come up against Italy captain Anthony Minichiello and his brother Mark in their opening fixture in Cardiff.

Scotland have two pairs of brothers in Hull KR forwards Jonathan and Adam Walker and hookers Ian and Andrew Henderson, who played alongside older brother Kevin in the last World Cup but will be on their own this time after he ended his career to work in the mines in northern Queensland.

There are also Kane and Andrew Bentley, the New Zealand-born brothers who both played for Catalan Dragons in Super League and will hope to do the same for France, while Joseph Paulo will captain the United States hoping to have brother Junior alongside him.
