Featherstone romp back to the summit

Featherstone Rovers moved back to the top of the Co-operative Championship by stretching their unbeaten league run to 16 matches with an 11-try spree in their 56-16 win over Widnes Vikings.

Liam Finn set up four tries and kicked six goals as Rovers moved above Leigh on points difference with a game in hand.

Sam Smeaton bagged two first-half tries as Featherstone stormed into a 26-0 interval lead. They led when Jon Hepworth and Ian Hardman sent in Smeaton.

Finn and Hardman then made the opening for Tommy Saxton to cross before Ben Cockayne scored from Finn’s superbly-flighted kick.

Finn’s long pass put in Bryn Powell at the corner and Finn kicked his third goal.

Hepworth put in Smeaton for his second try after Kirk Netherton was halted just short of the line.

Widnes’s problems increased when Steve Tyrer was stretchered off shortly before half-time.
