Featherstone Rovers 56 Rochdale Hornets 10: Featherstone romp to victory but unlikely to progress

FEATHERSTONE Rovers coasted to their first win this season with an 11-try spree.

Jon Steel, Jonny Grayshon and Lasen Marabe each bagged two tries as Rovers bounced back from a 36-6 drubbing at Leigh and condemned Rochdale Hornets to their fourth straight loss.

But Featherstone, whose final group match is at Hunslet Hawks on March 4, are unlikely to qualify for the knockout stages after collecting only two points from their first two games.

Rovers were 10-0 up after just six minutes. Liam Finn's kick set up the opening score for Steel and Grayshon then forced his way over.

Featherstone became bogged down in the heavy conditions before Aaron Dobek put them further ahead, darting over from close range.

Rochdale rarely posed a threat and fell further behind when Steel and Grayshon both collected their second tries in a three-minute spell.

Substitute Ross Divorty powered over for Featherstone's sixth try shortly before half-time and Kyle Briggs kicked the third of his five goals to make it 30-0.

The one-way traffic continued in the second half when Papua New Guinea winger Marabe capitalised on Finn's kick to score on his debut. Finn's clever pass then put in Ian Hardman.

Rovers completed the rout with further tries from Marabe, Briggs and Papua New Guinea substitute Jessie Joe Parker.

Rochdale's only points came from second-half tries by Dane Gorton and Wayne Corcoran and a goal by Dean Hatton.
