Featherstone Rovers 68 Hunslet Hawks 0: Featherstone run home 12 tries as Haigh injury adds to Hunslet’s woes

LEADERS Featherstone’s 12-try display kept them on course to finish top of the Co-operative Championship for the third year running.

Liam Finn led the spree on his 100th Rovers appearance. He kicked 10 goals and scored a try to take him past 1,000 points for the club.

His half-back partner Andy Kain bagged two tries and nine other players also got on the scoresheet in Featherstone’s 10th straight victory that put them two points clear of closest rivals Halifax.

Hunslet, who lost hooker Luke Haigh early on with a medial knee ligament injury, slumped to their 11th successive defeat after conceding seven first-half tries.

Kain sent Anthony England charging over for the opening score and Kain’s clever pass then sent in Sam Smeaton.

Saxton, Finn and England put in Kain before Featherstone shot further ahead with two tries in two minutes.

Jack Bussey’s break saw Jon Grayshon go over and Finn swapped passes with Grayshon to score. Hunslet struggled to get out of their own half and they fell further behind when they conceded two more tries shortly before half-time.

Stuart Dickens made the most of weak tackling to charge over and his fellow substitute James Lockwood crossed from Ben Kaye’s pass to make it 40-0.

The Hawks were quickly under the cosh again at the start of the second-half.

Clever work by Lockwood and Greg Worthington led to Tommy Saxton scoring, Finn sent youngster Bussey bursting through for his first touchdown at senior level and Worthington went over.

Hunslet’s Lee Mapals, David March and Ryan Benjafield went close before Rovers rounded off the rout with Kain’s second try and one from Matty Dale.
