Former Cas star Chase is set for exit at Salford after suspension

The ex-Castleford Tigers stand-off, who moved to Salford from Wheldon Road for a sizeable six-figure fee in 2013, is thought to have become unsettled at the AJ Bell Stadium and has been left out of the team to play Halifax in the Qualifiers tomorrow.

A statement from the club said: “Red Devils stand-off Rangi Chase has not been considered for selection this week, as he has been suspended pending an internal disciplinary investigation by the club. The club will not be making any further comment on this issue.”

Chase, 29, has been linked with a move to Warrington and Catalans Dragons despite having more than two years left on his deal.

He was the first major signing for Marwan Koukash when the racehorse owner took control of the club two and a half years ago.

Salford have already parted company this year with internationals Gareth Hock and Kevin Locke while French scrum-half Theo Fages recently quit the club and captain Harrison Hansen and Cory Paterson are expected to leave at the end of the season.

The likely loss of Chase will be a personal blow to Koukash, who set about building the team around the 2011 Man of Steel but has taken a back seat over recruitment and retention since bringing in Australia national coach Tim Sheens as director of rugby.

Elsewhere, Hull FC prop Feka Palea’aesina has signed a new one-year deal at the KC Stadium.

The 32-year-old former New Zealand international has made 35 appearances with the Black and Whites since returning to Super League in 2014 from French club Limoux.

Former Huddersfield Giants head coach Nathan Brown is set to get the main job at NRL club Newcastle Knights.

The 42-year-old, who returned to Australia after guiding St Helens to their Grand Final success last October, is poised to take over from caretaker coach Danny Buderus, who has been in charge of the Knights since the sacking of Rick Stone in July.
