Former favourite Brown tipping Giants to land the biggest prize

KEVIN BROWN believes former employers Huddersfield Giants are primed to win a first championship in more than half a century but has no regrets leaving.

The ex-England stand-off played over 150 Super League games for the West Yorkshire club and captained them before leaving for Widnes Vikings at the end of 2012.

Huddersfield went on to win the League Leaders’ Shield in their first season without him and are now touted to reach a Grand Final.

Brown, who misses tonight’s game between the sides due to a hamstring strain, said: “Giants have strengthened with more quality signings this season and I think they have as good a chance as anybody to win it all.

“A few people have asked if I regret moving but I can honestly say I don’t.

“It was the best decision for me and my family and I’m loving my rugby.

“I loved it at Huddersfield and Wigan, before, but I’m enjoying being part of a Widnes club that is driving forward here.

“It’s frustrating to miss out on this game especially as I did my hamstring in training last week and it’s the only time I’ve ever pulled a muscle.

“I hope to be ready for the game with Salford next Thursday, but I know our boys will give Huddersfield a match on Friday.”

Brown, 29, had scored a hat-trick in their 64-10 opening day win over London Broncos but Widnes had no game last week.

Huddersfield, meanwhile, squandered a 24-6 lead to draw at home to Hull KR.

“They will be disappointed with that second half performance,” admitted Brown.

“But you do have to give some credit to Rovers too.

“We know Huddersfield come here as favourites – there’s not a weak link in their squad and Jodie Broughton can’t even get a game – but they will have to fight for everything as we have progressed a lot in the last few years.

“Huddersfield are a pretty formidable team and it’s good to see the boys there doing well as I know how hard they all work.

“But we’re ready to show the advances we’ve made too.”

Huddersfield coach Paul Anderson makes just one change with David Faiumu likely to replace Kruise Leeming.
