Fox acknowledged as Owen makes debut

Trinity have agreed to release the 30-year-old from his contract, which was due to expire at the end of the season, as he was unlikely to feature again this term.

Fox scored 17 tries in 26 games last season having been similarly prolific in 2012 when he re-joined the club from Hull KR.

However, he has struggled for form this time around with Agar recently preferring full-back Richard Mathers to him out wide.

The coach has also signed Richard Owen from Castleford Tigers, the winger who is set to debut against Warrington Wolves tomorrow.

Agar said: “We’d decided that we wouldn’t be re-signing Peter for next year and for a player of his experience, we’d give him the opportunity to look elsewhere with the view to him bagging a contract for next year. We really thank him for his efforts. Every time he comes across the stripe you know he’s going to give you his best – whether that be on the training field or in a match, Peter gives you everything he’s got.”

Fox is expected to sign for Halifax while Owen gets a chance for Wakefield tomorrow given it has been decided on-loan Chris Riley will not play his parent club.

Owen, 24, joined last week but was not selected to face his former club at Magic Weekend.

“We just thought one training session and the occasion of playing against Castleford was a little bit too much for him,” said Agar.

“It’s important for Rich to try and get off on the right foot and we didn’t want to put him under too much pressure straight away.

“He’ll get his chance this week and give us a real boost.”

Matty Wildie, Chris Annakin and Max Jowitt come into Wakefield’s 19-man squad for with Dean Collis (knee), Daniel Smith and Riley dropping out.
