Toovey, 47, played for New South Wales and Australia and had a 13-year career as a half-back with Manly and Northern Eagles.

He coached Manly from 2012-2015.

Owners Graham Lowe and Andrew Chalmers revived Bulls this week, after the former club ceased trading on January 3.

Lowe revealed former Great Britain international Leon Pryce will be club captain. He said a total of 26 players are signed on, though no other names have been confirmed.

Jes Atwal is the club chairman.

Bulls play Hull KR in their opening Championship fixture on February 5.

Lowe described Pryce’s appointment as a “major coup”.

And he said: “One of the most important things we needed to do was stabilise the coaching position.

“We looked at what lay ahead and what was required; the courage, the experience, the toughness, being a good person, the understanding and respect.
