George is determined to realise his dream with the Giants

For their semi-final meeting with Tony Smith’s Wolves is a repeat of the 2009 showpiece occasion when Warrington beat a disappointing Giants 25-16.

Current Giants players like Eorl Crabtree, Luke Robinson, Kevin Brown and Leroy Cudjoe all played in that final in front of over 76,000 fans.

But Huddersfield-born George is eager to make his Wembley debut and believes their 2009 loss will have no influence tomorrow when the sides meet at the City of Salford Stadium (5.30pm).

“It’s everyone’s dream to get to a Challenge Cup final and we’re only 80 minutes away from achieving that,” he said. “We can’t get ahead of ourselves, though, as it’s going to be a very tough 80 minutes.

“There’s no point talking about the final in 2009 because it’s a different scenario now and they’re standing in the way of us playing in a final this time.

“We know how good they can be but we are a good side when we play to our best as well. They’re a great side up near the top of the league and we’re going to have to be at the top of our game to come through and, hopefully, that’s what we’ll do.”

Former Wakefield Trinity Wildcats winger George suffered concussion in last week’s 52-6 defeat to Castleford Tigers, their seventh loss in eight Super League games, which has seen the Giants slide down to seventh in the table.

It means they head into tomorrow’s game as huge underdogs, but George believes their perseverance can pay dividends.

“Preparation is going very well at the minute,” said George. “We’re focusing on the things that didn’t go so well for us in the past few weeks and we need to make sure we’re fully prepared defensively and ready for the game.

“Things haven’t been going our way recently but that’s one of those things that happens to every team at some point. We just have to stay switched on and turn it around. We need to come together as a team and work hard to get through this period and get back to winning ways.

“Stepping out for a semi-final is going to be one of those moments that you have to stop and take in. It’s a great occasion for everyone involved and it’s the perfect time for us to get back to winning ways.”

Super League referee Richard Silverwood will officiate tomorrow’s game, joined by touch-judges Robert Hicks and Tim Roby. Ian Smith will be video referee.

Ben Thaler will take charge of today’s semi-final between Leeds and Wigan Warriors, assisted by touch-judges James Child and Tony Martin while Steve Ganson will adjudicate on any video referee decisions.
