Giants can trouble in-form Warrington, insists George

LUKE GEORGE believes Huddersfield Giants have enough strike power of their own to overcome Super League’s traditionally prolific Warrington Wolves.

The unbeaten clubs meet in front of the television cameras at Galpharm Stadium this afternoon, each hoping to go clear as the competition’s front-runners.

Huddersfield showed their attacking flair with a comprehensive 66-6 rout of Widnes last week while Warrington – who amassed more than 1,000 points last season – were similarly fluent in a 50-10 destruction of London Broncos.

Winger George scored his first Super League hat-trick against Widnes, on his home debut after signing from Wakefield, benefiting from some fine assistance from Joe Wardle, while England centre Leroy Cudjoe grabbed four tries as Danny Brough and Luke Robinson showed all their artistry in the middle.

George told the Yorkshire Post: “We know it’ll be a lot tougher against Warrington – they have world class players throughout.

“But we can get better ourselves. We were good last week and a lot of stuff came off but we’ve got more to come yet.

“As much as Warrington have real threats, we know we can cause them problems of our own and realise that we’re capable of beating anyone.

“We’ve started well but have to maintain that if we want to go on and win things this year.”

That is the key for Huddersfield, who regularly threaten but have yet to break through into the upper echelons and secure some silverware.

Warrington will provide an early indication of their ability while there will be a fascinating battle up front – Giants prop Eorl Crabtree plays his 300th career game while Warrington captain and England front-row colleague Adrian Morley marks his 400th.

Hull FC, meanwhile, bid to put the frustration of last week’s postponement in Perpignan behind them as they entertain London Broncos in another televised fixture tomorrow evening.

“We switched attention to London as soon as it was called off, with three extra training sessions in France to compensate for not playing,” said coach Peter Gentle, who hopes to see Australian scrum-half Brett Seymour debut after minor knee surgery.

“It will be tricky for him and we aren’t putting too much pressure on in his first Super League game.

“We’re looking to Brett to bring a little more control to our play in attack with his knowledge of when and when not to push the ball wide, offer more patience than we showed against Warrington.”

Hull opened with a 20-20 draw against the Wolves but Gentle – who says prop Eamon O’Carroll has suffered a relapse of his back problem – is not reading much into London’s heavy defeat against the same opponents last weekend.

“Warrington can do that to teams when they get in the mood, so that is nothing for London to be ashamed of,” he said.

Across the city, Hull KR host St Helens earlier in the afternoon with Craig Sandercock having to find a makeshift half-back partnership given Michael Dobson has joined Blake Green on the sidelines for the next month.

Liam Watts is added to the squad and Jason Netherton should be recalled but Saints are bolstered by the return of international trio Paul Wellens, Michael Shenton and Jamie Foster.
