Goulding sees red as Doncaster triumph

BARROW player-coach Bobbie Goulding, in his second game back since coming out of retirement at the age of 42, was red-carded yesterday as Doncaster won in Cumbria.

The ex-Great Britain scrum-half was dismissed in the final minute after a lengthy confrontation with a touch judge and shortly after Doncaster’s Mike Emmett and the hosts’ Dan Toal were sin-binned for fighting.

Doncaster winger Nev Morrison got his side off to a flying start when he latched on to a kick through by Liam Kent for the opening try in the eighth minute.

They added to that further when Rich Wilkinson crossed in the 20th minute and Dave Scott added the goal.

Barrow, who had beaten Rochdale a week earlier to lift off bottom in the Championship, responded with a converted Dalton Grant try to trail 10-6 at the break.

It was not until the 70th, though, that Doncaster made sure of victory.

Player-coach Paul Cooke chipped over the defence and winger Tom Hodson finished off out wide.

Hull FC’s Liam Colbon, the ex-Hull KR and Wigan wideman, added another with just three minutes to go but Barrow secured a bonus point with Ian Mort’s try at the last.
