Grant double in vain as Dewsbury defeated

Dewsbury Rams crashed to their first Championship defeat, going down to Oldham at rain-lashed Stalybridge Celtic.

Oldham raced into the lead when Tom Ashton raced over on the left. Dale Morton had a try ruled out for offside before Oldham grabbed a second via Gareth Owen, Lewis Palfrey converting.

Dalton Grant was sin-binned for an alleged trip and Danny Langtree raced over with Palfry – who also kicked a penalty – converting, as he did Langtree’s interception try.

Dewsbury’s Ryan Wright charged down a kick but as Joel Farrell appeared certain to score, he was pulled back by Richard Lepori, who was sin-binned.

Dewsbury attempted to launch a fightback at the start of the second half when Dalton Grant pounced when Oldham knocked on Reynolds’s up and under. Reynolds converted.

But Oldham responded with a Michael Ward try, which Palfrey converted. Grant was on the end of a sweeping move to grab his second try out wide before any Dewsbury hopes were ended in the space of 60 seconds.

Nathan Conroy was sin-binned and on the back of a penalty Owen crashed over for his second try. As the Rams lined up for Palfrey’s conversion, Reynolds was sin-binned for speaking out of turn and Dewsbury were down to 11 men.
