He watched as Bradford survived some scary moments to win their last Super League game before relegation, eventually securing a 46-36 victory at bottom-placed London Broncos.

It brought a day few people thought would ever come – one of the game’s iconic names banished to the Championship – but Bradford have known for more than two months they will be operating in the second tier in 2015 and have adjusted accordingly.

Green, who bought them out of administration in March, said: “Everybody likes to dine at the top table and promotion has now got to be our sole, fundamental key objective. The only thing more important than that is balancing our books but we’ll be okay.

“Every decision our club makes will be made logically and on sound financial basis not on the emotion of playing the game.

“I’m positive we’ve got a strong side to compete in the Championship. We’ll know in 30 games time whether it’s good enough to get back into Super League.”

Head coach Jimmy Lowes has been able to retain the bulk of his current squad for 2015 despite a significant drop in salary cap.

Green added: “The fact we’ve retained the players we have and attracted some of the others is testament to the structure we’ve put in place, the way we’re steering our ship, the coach and the management structure too.

“The support on Saturday was marvellous as well. You’d have thought they’d won the Championship not celebrating relegation.

“We had over 7,000 fans attend our last home game which is more than some of the top eight get for an average home game. It’s a great bedrock to build on.”

Meanwhile, former head coach Francis Cummins has launched legal proceedings against the club for wrongful dismissal following his sacking in June.
