Griffin finally appears to have found a home

The player looked like being lost to the game after leaving Castleford Tigers for union in 2012 but then returning briefly with Championship part-timers Batley earlier this season.

However, the 24-year-old started training with Salford and has proved a big hit in the last month, scoring 12 points and also producing two vital try-saving tackles on Tom Lineham in Saturday’s 35-22 win over Hull FC.

Harris said: “Josh has sort of sneaked under the radar because people have been talking about Mason (Caton-Brown) and Kevin Locke coming in.

“But that’s three really good games for us – he’s big, athletic and can cause teams trouble. Those tackles he made are game-changers. He’s done a lot of work on his defence in training and he’s starting to get the rewards. We’re excited by him.”

Griffin, 24, is at his fourth club in less than two years, having also featured with Wakefield and Huddersfield.

But he could have found a permanent home now given the way he has started with Salford alongside his brother, former Leeds Rhinos prop Darrell Griffin.

Hull were left to rue a raft of handling errors once more as they failed to capitalise yet again on decent attacking positions.

“I’m used to it – the frustration has almost stopped now,” said coach Lee Radford, as his side missed the chance to close the gap on eighth-placed Widnes Vikings to just two points. “It’s the same every week. We have a dig but, unfortunately, we’re not quite there. We need to turn these battling performances into a result.

“Salford had a real physical period in the first half. They are aggressive in what they do, sitting ball players on their arses, and they got away with a lot.

“But I think we had 10 kids out there who have come through the youth structure at the club, and it’s a great learning curve for them.”

Salford are level on points with the East Yorkshire club and will fancy their chances of a late push for the play-offs ahead of a trip to Hull KR on Sunday.
