Halifax 36 Hunslet Hawks 42: Mark breaks Cup deadlock to send Halifax crashing out against Hawks

Papua New Guinea wingman Michael Mark was the hero for Paul March's side, who had hooker Richard Chapman sent off nine minutes from the end, crashing over in injury time to break a 36-36 stalemate.

Hunslet led 22-12 at the break after dominating the first 40 minutes and maintained their advantage in the second half, with converted tries from James Houston and Chapman and a penalty from Tom Sheldrake cancelling out Halifax scores from Rob Worrincy and Dylan Nash.

The home side surged back after Chapman's dismissal, Frank Watene and Luke Branighan crossing and Lee Paterson levelling the scores with the boot.

At 36-36, Matt Calland's side were going through to the last eight, but Mark popped up with a powerful finish to seal a famous win.

The Hawks had been lively from the start, taking a fifth-minute lead when Richard Knight started and finished a fine move down the right flank.

Any suggestion that was a one-off was quickly dismissed when Hunslet doubled their lead, Nathan Larvin touching down and Knight kicking the goal.

Paul White then gifted the Hawks field position from which Neil Lowe romped over for 16-0.

Halifax finally got themselves on the scoreboard just before the half hour mark, Nash scoring.

Hunslet had Larvin sin binned soon after for a professional foul, but the 12 men still managed to extend their advantage, Charlie Wabo charging over and Darren Robinson adding the goal.

The home threw themselves a lifeline right on half time, teenager Anthony Bowman scoring and Paterson converting.
