Halifax opened the scoring after 13 minutes, centre Steve Tyrer striding clear down the left and putting the wing Rob Worrincy over in the corner.

Tyrer kicked the conversion and was on target again four minutes later when half back Paul Handforth’s deception created a touchdown for back rower Dane Manning.

And the home side made it 18-0 in the 23rd minute when captain Scott Murrell set Tyrer up for a try of his own, the threequarter adding the extras.

Town, who showed glimpses of attacking potential throughout, finally got on the scoresheet just before the half hour when the full-back Elliott Miller scored, Carl Forber setting up an 18-6 interval scoreline.

Halifax made the game safe in the early minutes of the second period, the replacement forward Andy Bracek and young hooker Keith Holden both crossing in quick succession and Tyrer kicking the home side 30-6 ahead.

Town responded with an outstanding touchdown from their captain, the Australian back row Jarrad Stack, before Lee Paterson and Ryan Fieldhouse both scored to open up a 40-12 gap.
