Harlequins 0 Hull KR 34: Morgan’s sights on play-offs following whitewash

Justin Morgan insists his Hull KR side have everything to play for after getting back to winning ways with a comfortable Engage Super League victory at Harlequins.

The Robins bounced back from last weekend’s thrashing by Warrington to run in six tries in a 34-0 success at the Stoop.

And after brushing aside Quins, Morgan, whose future has been the subject of much speculation during the last week, has his eyes on an end-of-season charge for the play-off places.

He said: “Hopefully this result can be a real catalyst for us.

“I would like to think we still have a chance of making a run at the play-offs.

“There is a lot of rugby still to be played and every game from now on is a big game for us.

“When you are in a business that is based on results there is always going to be pressure, and I have to absorb that pressure.

“We have a very proud group of players here and what pleased me most was how they responded to the recent defeats and showed a fantastic attitude today.”

Jake Webster was the two-try hero for Rovers, running in a score in each half as the visitors pulled away for victory.

It was almost half an hour before the first score, but after Webster crossed Liam Colbon struck on half time to open-up a 10-point lead.

After the break things became more comfortable for the away side as Webster, Blake Green, Clint Newton and Michael Dobson all touched down, Dobson also booting 10 points.

Quins coach Rob Powell moaned: “I thought Rovers had that little bit more leadership that proved the difference.

“It was a good game in the first half and it was still in the balance.

“The try near half-time really hurt us and we have to show more resiliency in those situations going forward.

“It was a war of attrition – I know the scoreboard suggests it was a blow-out but it was far from that. It just came down to crucial moments and Hull had the stronger leaders out there to cope.

“We had a few players take knocks today so we will have to think about how we approach things for the rest of the season.”
