Hodson’s hat-trick lays foundations

championship one: A hat-trick of tries from winger Tom Hodson helped Doncaster to another comfortable home victory, 46-12 over South Wales Scorpions.

Hodson touched down three times in 26 minutes but it was an impressive all-round team display that earned Doncaster the points.

Half-backs Paul Cooke and Kieran Hyde ran the show and Doncaster were also well served by Kyle Kesik, Lee Waterman and a powerful pack.

Cooke delivered a cleverly weighted pass for prop Craig Robinson to run 35 metres to open the scoring. Jack Ely powered his way over from acting half-back three minutes later before Scorpions cut the deficit with a neatly-worked try for Dalton Grant. Jamie Rooney added the points.

Hodson’s first try came when he took advantage of a slip in the Welsh defence and raced through.

Liam Cunningham touched down following a good passing move and Hodson capitalised on a superb kick from Hyde. The Dons led 26-6 at the interval.

Hodson completed his hat-trick in the second half with Kyle Bibb and Waterman adding to the score.

Scorpions battled hard and were rewarded with a touchdown from Lewis Reece before Hyde sealed victory following a good run by Waterman.
