Huddersfield Giants receive positive news on injury front

HUDDERSFIELD Giants head coach Simon Woolford hopes to have both Darnell McIntosh and James Gavet fit for the leaders as they face Wigan Warriors on Sunday - and Jordan Turner is also expected to return.

The sight of Australian prop Gavet lining up will especially cheer Giants fans given he was stretchered off in Friday’s 22-4 win at Hull KR when full-back McIntosh also limped out early on.

Woolford will need to name his 21-man squad tomorrow ahead of the visit of second-placed Wigan but he explained: “Darnell’s nothing serious.

“Whether he makes this week or not we’re not too sure.

“It just depends on how he responds to treatment.

“I’d like to think at the very wrorst Darns will miss a week and James (Gavet) looks okay at the moment.

“We took all the precautions with it being a neck injury but he was up and about walking afterwards.

“He is looking okay for this week.”

Experienced centre Jordan Turner missed the Hull KR win, Huddersfield’s third win from their opening three games.

But Woolford revealed: “Jordan will come back in.

“He ran on Monday and got through everything.

“I’d expect him to take part in full training tomorrow and take his place in the team which is pleasing.”

All of which means Woolford is spoilt for choice with a raft of first-team players still yet to get a look-in.

“We do have some (selection headaches),” added the Australian.

“We have a relatively fit squad and have players chomping at the bit to get an opportunity which is good.

“You can see the results of competition for spots at the moment - we have a lot of guys playing some decent footy so the effort is there and while we’re winning there’s no need to make too many changes to the team.

“There may be a forced one here or there but if it’s not broken you don’t have to fix it.

“We’ve guys who’ve played plenty of Super League games not gettuibng a game at the moment.”
