Now enjoying their first season in Super League, Brian McDermott’s side travel to Huddersfield Giants tonight in the fifth round.

Although Toronto were drawn at home, the club have agreed to play all their cup-ties away so the game will take place at the Giants’ John Smith’s Stadium.

“One of the biggest days in rugby league over here is the Challenge Cup final at Wembley and every game is an opportunity to take one step closer to getting to that,” said Toronto captain Josh McCrone.

“We’re not looking too far ahead but the whole concept of the Challenge Cup is pretty exciting.

“Hopefully we can put in a good performance and the result will look after itself. Then we can roll that into what we do in the league.”

McDermott’s men are still looking for their first win in Super League and go into Wednesday’s cup-tie on the back of a humiliating 66-12 rout at Leeds, which McCrone admits was a setback.

“In the first four weeks it was clear to us that we were making improvements,” he said.

“Even against Saints we defended well but it was disappointing last week against Leeds and we understand that’s not up to the standard we want to set. So we’re looking forward to running out at Huddersfield tomorrow night to try and atone for that. The way we’re performing at the minute, any good performance is really important. We’re just trying to get better.”

Toronto are expected to have stand-off Joe Mellor and prop Darcy Lussick back from injury to take on a Huddersfield side that have won four of their first five games in Super League so far.

“They certainly look a different team to last year,” McCrone said.

Dewsbury Rams are also in Cup action tonght when they travel to Whitehaven.

Wigan prop Oliver Partington has been given a four-game ban for a “cannonball” tackle during his side’s 30-16 win over Hull KR on Sunday.

Partington was charged with making dangerous contact on Rovers front-rower Rob Mulhern, who sustained a knee injury in the tackle. Wigan’s Ben Flower was handed a two-match ban for a similar tackle on Rovers’ Matty Storton in the same game.
