Only way is up for the Giants '“ English

MATTY ENGLISH says Huddersfield Giants are intent on reaching the top-eight and advancing further still.

The Giants head to Salford Red Devils tonight knowing victory will see them escape the bottom-four for the first time this season.

Young prop English – who this week signed a new four-year deal – says confidence is high after three successive wins.

“There is a bit of a buzz around the place and with some players coming back into the squad we feel we’re growing again,” said the 20-year-old, captain Leroy Cudjoe set for his first game of 2018.

“We’re kind of out of the hole that we were in. Once we get in the eight I think we will stay there and move for that top-four.

“We’re trying to keep this momentum going now.”

Salford currently sit in eighth just a point ahead of Huddersfield but have lost their last four matches, including a Challenge Cup defeat to Championship Leigh Centurions. It was also announced this week that they need to raise capital to improve their squad for 2019.

Salford have won the last five meetings between the clubs, though, and English added: “They are in a similar position to us in the league so it’s almost a four-point game.

“They’ll be just as eager as us to get the win and in the past couple of years always seem to have got one over on us. We’re keen to get out there and stand up to them.”

Meanwhile, English who has made five appearances this term, added: “I’m trying to take every game as it comes and every game as an opportunity to impress.

“But hopefully I can keep knocking them off. My goal at the start of the year was to make 10 appearances so hopefully I;m getting close by the end of the year.

“I’m absolutely buzzing about the new deal, There was other interest but Giants have been loyal to me and now I’m can relaly focus on my rugby and developing as a player.”
