Huddersfield v St Helens: Cox out to prove his worth with Giants

ON-LOAN forward Jordan Cox has vowed to use his month’s stint at Huddersfield Giants to prove his worth to main employers Hull KR.

The rangy second-row is expected to make his Giants debut in tomorrow’s home game against struggling champions St Helens.

He was snapped up during the week to help offset the loss of England international Brett Ferres to a serious ankle injury.

Cox, 22, has yet to feature for the Robins this year after undergoing a shoulder reconstruction during the off-season but he played 17 times in the last campaign and is eager to regain his spot.

“This is a great opportunity to prove I should be playing regularly in Super League,” he said, with the likes of NRL signing Maurice Blair, former Huddersfield utility Graeme Horne, ex-Warrington star Tyrone McCarthy and Frenchman Kevin Larroyer all currently barring his path.

“I know I’m good enough, and I’m looking forward to showing everyone over here what I can do.

“Having that shoulder surgery meant I was behind the rest of the Hull KR boys at the start of the season, and because they’ve made a good start that’s worked against me. But (Hull KR coach) Chris Chester has been honest with me and I hold no grudges towards him.

“I’m really grateful to (Giants coach) Paul Anderson that he’s given me the chance to step up at Huddersfield and I hope to repay him as quickly as possible. I’ve not come here to spend most of my time on the bench.”

Cox added: “Even though I’ve arrived after we’ve lost two games, there’s no negativity at all.”

Youngster Jake Connor is in the 19-man squad for suspended centre Joe Wardle.
