Hull Dockers’ run finally over as Worrincy sparkles for Halifax

Five tries from winger Rob Worrincy were the highlight as Halifax scored 48 second-half points at Craven Park to move into the fourth round of the Challenge Cup.

The first half had been a sterile affair, despite both teams attempting to open up the game on a decent playing surface.

The visitors took a ninth-minute lead when the Ireland prop Luke Ambler rampaged through on the left, but was hauled down just short and the play was spread right where Worrincy cantered in.

Centre Steve Tyrer converted and was on target again on the quarter hour when half-back Ben Johnston danced clear down the middle to score Halifax’s second try of the game.

Tyrer again converted, although he could not add the extras to his side’s third, scored by back row Adam Robinson on the half hour.

Dockers had their moment of glory just before the break, replacement hooker Mike Jarvis diving in from close range and the stand-off Chris Stephenson kicking the conversion.

But they could not preserve the 16-6 scoreline until the break, Tony Tonks rumbling over and Tyrer converting to leave Halifax with a 22-6 advantage.

The second half was a different story entirely, as the visitors, playing with much more purpose, cut loose almost immediately.

By the 56th-minute they led 44-6, with Worrincy, twice, young prop Sam Brooks and back row Dane Manning all touching down to banish any lingering doubts.

The procession continued with Worrincy’s fourth, Johnston’s second and Robinson’s second as the visitors went 60-6 ahead before Worrincy and Robinson wrapped things up.
