Hull FC owner Adam Pearson in hospital with Covid-19

HULL FC owner Adam Pearson has been hospitalised with coronavirus ahead of the club’s bid for a Betfred Super League Grand Final place.

He has been struggling with the virus for some time and missed last week’s elimination play-off win at Warrington Wolves.

Harrogate-born Pearson - who turns 56 on Thursday - is being treated with supplemental oxygen.

He hopes to be well enough to watch Thursday’s semi-final at Wigan Warriors on television as Hull - who have not won the title since 1983 - take on the League Leaders’ Shield winners.

The former Leeds United executive director, who was chairman of Hull City and Derby County before buying Hull FC in July 2011, rarely misses games and has pumped millions of pounds of his own money into the East Yorkshire club.

If the Black and Whites win, they will play St Helens or Catalans Dragons at their own KCOM Stadium on Friday week, a first Grand Final since 2006.

Hull said Pearson is undergoing "routine" treatment and is in a "stable" condition.

FC chief executive James Clark added: “Adam is in good spirits and extremely grateful for the support and well wishes he has received, in particular the fantastic efforts of the nurses and medical staff who are working around the clock in very challenging circumstances.

“He has had a rough few days, but we are looking forward to getting him back at the club in the near future after some much needed rest and recuperation.

“I know Adam is looking forward to watching the game this week and hopefully he will be able to join us at the KCOM Stadium if we can earn a place in the Grand Final.

“I speak on behalf of everyone associated with the club in wishing Adam the best of health and a speedy recovery.”
