Hull FC pull off signing coup with capture of State of Origin star Josh Reynolds

Hull FC have completed their search for a stellar stand-off after signing former New South Wales State of Origin star Josh Reynolds from Wests Tigers on a two-year deal.

New Black and Whites head coach Brett Hodgson knows the stylish player well having worked with him at the NRL club over the last three seasons and believes he will be a perfect fit alongside Marc Sneyd.

Reynolds, 31, came to the fore at Canterbury Bulldogs and helped them reach the 2012 Grand Final and return again two years later.

It was 2014 that Reynolds played a role for New South Wales as they defeated Queensland in a series for the first time in eight years and – though he has struggled for game time in recent years with Wests – he is seen as a major recruit for Super League.

Hodgson said: “Josh is an elite player.

“He builds his game around work-ethic and effort, and that’s what we are after here at the club – he’ll be a real leader for us.

“He’s played Origin, Grand Finals and Prime Ministers XIII matches. He is the sort of player who will bring out the best in the other players around him.

“The opportunity to see him work together on the field with Marc Sneyd is really exciting.

“They can complement each other really well with their two different skill-sets; he is a runner of the ball and will find opportunities to attack out of nothing.”

With Albert Kelly having returned to Australia and Jake Connor pencilled in to start next season at full-back, recruiting a world-class No6 was Hodgson’s priority since being appointed just under a fortnight ago.

“I’m really excited and proud to be joining a club like Hull FC,” he added, with a third year option also included in the deal.

“I’ve heard a lot about the club and their vision which is exciting and I’d love to get over to the UK and try and win a trophy with them. I’m really ready to rip in and get started. I’m excited about what the next few years has in store.

“The stadium looks class. I can’t wait to run out there for the club and start the next chapter in my career.”
