The New Zealand-born Samoa international was among the try scorers in last week’s win over St Helens and will be at the centre of attention again when Widnes Vikings visit KCOM Stadium tonight. Tuimavave was Hull’s Challenge Cup-winning stand-off in 2016, but admitted: “I am definitely more at home in the outside-backs.

“I can just focus on myself and on carrying the ball. At stand-off you’re worrying about other blokes.

“I think on the right-edge we are going pretty well at the moment.

“Albie [Albert Kelly] has made our edge a lot stronger, especially with his running game.

“That makes mine and Sika Manu’s job that bit easier.”

Hull have won three of their opening four matches, without hitting top gear and Tuimavave said: “We set a goal for the early rounds, especially with the conditions, to just tough out games and no matter how we got them, just to get the two points.

“We got our first home win last week and it’s important to get another one and get some momentum going into Warrington and Wigan.”

Widnes have collected just one point, from a draw at Catalans Dragons, so far, but Tuimavave is wary of complacency.

He added: “We can’t underestimate them. Last week being nilled by Castleford, I think they will want to come out to prove a point.

“I think they will come with some attacking flair.

“They are missing their two first-choice half-backs, but I think that makes them unpredictable.

“We don’t know what to expect from their halves, but we know they will come out fast and try to get over the top of us.”

Hull coach Lee Radford said he was looking for a more clinical attacking performance.

“For us it’s just about making sure there are improvements from last week with the ball. “But maintaining how well we’ve been defending,” he said. “They have some threats and we are going to have to be very clinical in our defence, as we were last week.”
