Hull FC’s halfback Albert Kelly has signed a two-year contract extension with the Black & Whites to remain at the KCOM Stadium until 2020.
The 2017 Super League Dream Team stand-off and Man of Steel nominee scored an outstanding 20 tries for the Black & Whites in all competitions last season, second only to Jamie Shaul in the club’s top try-scoring charts, marking his maiden campaign with the Airlie Birds in style.
Despite missing a number of games through injury this season, the former NRL star has turned from scorer to provider, assisting nine tries for his fellow Hull FC team mates so far in 2018, making him Super League’s fifth highest for try assists.
Kelly said: “I’m very happy with the deal. I’m loving playing my footy here at Hull and I like the path that the club is taking towards success.”
“The coaching staff and the people in the background have made me feel so welcome here as well as my family, so I’m really excited to put in another two years with Hull FC.”
"The trophy cabinet could do with a bit more silverware, so I’m looking forward to staying here a bit longer and trying to achieve that!"
Hull FC head coach, Lee Radford, is also pleased to have tied down the services of his star man.
“I’m really pleased that he has decided to stay with us at Hull FC because there was genuine interest elsewhere, particularly in the NRL, so I’m chuffed to get him to stay here,” Radford said.
“We’ve wanted Albert to sign his contract for some time now. He’s a key part of the squad and keeping him is crucial in our efforts to win more silverware.
“I was simply honest with him. I told him that I really like having him around the place, and so do the rest of the boys. Whilst he’s an unbelievable player, he’s also a bundle of energy around camp, which is a great thing to have.”
Kelly’s extension makes him the fifth player to re-sign with Hull FC so far this season, including Carlos Tuimavave and youngsters Masimbaashe Matongo, Brad Fash and Jordan Lane, as well as a promotion for academy youngster Kieran Buchanan.
New signing Joe Westerman has also joined up with the squad, whilst exciting young forward Lewis Bienek will join the club for 2019.
