Hull FC's Jamie Shaul has return trip to Wembley on his mind

The full-back scored the winning try against Warrington Wolves when the Airlie Birds finally won at Wembley last season for the first time in their history.

He scored two more in Friday’s 62-0 sixth-round rout of Catalans Dragons to set up a home quarter-final with Castleford Tigers.

That means they are just two steps from Wembley again and Shaul said: “I do just love the Challenge Cup.

“It’s a great concept and I was thinking about it before the game against Catalans about getting back, maybe playing there again and lifting the trophy again.

“It makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

“We got there in 2013 and lost that game (16-0 to Wigan) but was hungry to get back, did it last year and after winning it definitely want to do it all again.”

With Hull up to second in the table, also, they are certainly in good form to mount a sustained challenge.

Shaul is in fine nick, too, having scored five tries in his last three outings alone and 10 in 13 games this term.

Furthermore, the 24-year-old has improved his creative quality in 2017, proving integral in the fightback at Widnes Vikings the week before Catalans and also creating tries against the depleted French side on Friday.

“I thought I started the season a bit slow and can’t put my finger on why I did that,” he said.

“But I’ve building week on week and my confidence is high now. Hopefully I can continue that form.

“We gave some cheap ball away against Catalans in the first half but defended it well and to nil any side is great.”

They face St Helens – vanquished 53-10 by Castleford in the Challenge Cup – at Magic Weekend in Newcastle on Saturday

“I think it’s a real good idea the Magic Weekend,” he said. “We’ll look forward to Saints but it will be tough as they’ve got a new head coach arriving so they’ll be trying to stake their claim for jerseys.”
