Hull KR 42 Harlequins 6: Thrilled Morgan keeps feet on the ground as play-off hopes escalate

Justin Morgan was thrilled with a strong team performance as Hull KR completed the double over Harlequins with a comfortable win at Craven Park.

Michael Dobson scored two tries and kicked seven goals, Clinton Newton crossed twice and there were also tries for Shaun Briscoe, Joel Clinton and Scott Wheeldon as Rovers romped to victory, with Quins' solitary try coming from Danny Ward.

Morgan said: "It really was just a good solid team performance.

"In the 78th minute we showed a great desire to defend our line when the game was certainly won.

"It was also pleasing to see the front-rowers combining for some tries. Rhys Lovegrove laid one on for Scott Wheeldon and Wattsy (Liam Watts) one for Joel (Clinton) and it's always good to see these guys working in combinations.

"Also I thought Michael Dobson did well and we are not too far away with our kicking game.

"Although there are improvements to be made in that direction I am pleased that we are improving in that direction but it really was just a good team performance."

Briscoe left the field shortly before the end but Morgan said the decision was taken as a precaution and he expects the full-back to play at Huddersfield next weekend.

Rovers are currently in the play-off places, but Morgan is not getting complacent.

"That's what we are aiming for," he said.

"But there is still a lot of footy to be played. And although we lost last week we have still put in three good back-to-back performances."

Harlequins head coach Brian McDermott said there would be no doom and gloom from him despite the scoreline.

McDermott said: "I thought Hull KR were very good and I don't think there was one area where we were particularly poor, I thought we were probably down in every aspect.

"But I did not think we were that bad, certainly not as bad as the scoreline would suggest.

"We had a couple of soft occasions in defence which made me angry but some of the mistakes are the result of the way we play.

"We play hot at times and we force passes but with that style comes loose ball and you lose possession but you have to deal with it. As far as effort goes I cannot fault the players."
