Hull KR face wait as RFL investigate fans' missile throwing

NEWS that Hull KR's supporters are under investigation was yesterday offset by the announcement that two of their players have received surprise call-ups by England coach Steve McNamara.

After the RFL said they are looking into a missile-throwing incident during Friday's Super League play-off match at Wigan, Robins duo Liam Watts and Scott Murrell discovered they are in the international train-on squad for the forthcoming Four Nations and the warm-up game against Cumbria at Whitehaven a week on Sunday.

However, more immediately, the club could face serious action if fans are found to have acted in a disorderly manner at DW Stadium during Rovers' 42-18 defeat.

Wigan players were forced to take evasive action after objects were thrown at them by spectators in the Hull KR end as Michael Dobson prepared to take a kick at goal.

Wigan's Sam Tomkins claimed coins and a cigarette lighter were among the objects hurled their way and the England international has urged the authorities to ban any trouble-makers for life.

Meanwhile, talented loose forward Watts, 20, has gained recognition following a sterling first full season at Craven Park in which the Castleford-born player missed only the last two games due to injury.

He could yet win Super League's Young Player of the Season award next week but half-back Murrell, 24, is more of a shock inclusion in McNamara's plans.

He joins team-mate Peter Fox while eight players – including young winger Chris Riley – have been called up from Warrington, the other club to go out of the play-offs at the weekend.

Ryan Atkins, Garreth Carvell, Ben Harrison, Adrian Morley, Richie Myler and Ben Westwood were in the 37-strong squad brought together by McNamara for a mid-season get-together and they are joined by hooker Mickey Higham, whose last appearance for England was in the 2008 World Cup.

Sheffield Eagles have given former player Sam Barlow and Championship Grand Finalists Halifax a seven-day ultimatum to agree compensation in the row over an alleged breach of contract.
