Hunslet Hawks 18 York City Knights 20: Haynes is York hero at Hunslet

HUNSLET had victory cruelly snatched from them by two late converted tries as promotion rivals York set an outright club record of nine successive wins.

The Hawks led 18-8 until winger James Saltonstall’s try was allowed despite a knock-on in the build-up, and Hunslet hooker David March was sin-binned for hotly disputing the decision. With March off the field, prop Colton Roche barged over just before the end and James Haynes’s conversion was the winning kick.

Prop Richard Moore grabbed a try on his second debut, having re-joined the Hawks from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Hawks substitute Liam Hood, who suffered a suspected fractured hand, dummied his way over between the posts for the opening try and Tommy Coyle added the goal.

York drew level when Ryan Backhouse sent centre James Ford over, Haynes converting before adding a penalty.

Moore responded by bursting on to March’s pass to score between the posts and Coyle stretched over York’s line three minutes later, March improving both tries but York roared back.
