Hunslet Hawks 28 Oldham 14: Haughey caps debut with Hawks double

TOMMY Haughey marked his home debut by scoring two second-half tries as Hunslet won a see-saw contest against Oldham.

Hunslet centre Wayne McHugh, who scored a club record 32 points against London Skolars a week earlier, took just three minutes to cross the Oldham line, his conversion attempt drifting just wide.

The visitors went ahead when Joe Chandler raced through a huge gap but his pass looked suspiciously forward and as the move was allowed to continue, Mick Fogerty went in under the posts, Matty Ashe converted.

Hunslet winger Michael Mark had a try disallowed but just before the interval he dived over from a play-the-ball after Paul March was held short. McHugh again failed with the kick but Hunslet led 8-6 at the break.

The advantage swung back in Oldham's favour, Fogerty seizing on a dropped pass to sprint away from inside his own half and score in the corner. Ashe landed an excellent conversion to leave the Hawks trailing 8-12.

Hunslet prop Scott Woodcock offloaded the ball in the tackle to send in Neil Lowe for their third try, McHugh's goal nudging the Hawks back in front.

Ashe levelled the scores with a penalty but two tries in four minutes by Richard Chapman and Haughey turned the game in Hunslet's favour, Haughey grabbing his second try just before the end.
