“He has a sore jaw and fortunately there’s no break but in that incident he did some damage to an ankle,” said head coach Paul Anderson, who is also without Scott Grix and David Faiumu for Friday’s trip to Castleford.

“He’s a small tear in his ligament and he was also concussed

“Broughy is tough and I’ve had to sit down and basically convince him he’s not right to play because he’s captain and he wants to lead the team. Hopefully it’s not too long.”

Briggs had been on loan at Dewsbury from Featherstone Rovers, and the Rams were keen to sign the stand-off on a long-term deal, before the Eagles stepped in.

“Kyle’s loan period finished this week and we had been negotiating with Kyle and with Featherstone to sign him for the next 18 months,” said Rams chairman Mark Sawyer.

“We agreed terms with Featherstone which would have kept Kyle’s contract in tact on his Featherstone terms until the end of 2015.

“But unfortunately Sheffield made an offer which is 50% higher.

“Sheffield were quite within their rights to make an offer and it is hardly surprising that Kyle chose to accept it.

“We wish Kyle all the best for the future and I’d like to thank the individuals and sponsors who helped to put together a package to try to bring Kyle to the club.”
