iPRO Sport Cup - Keighley Cougars and York City Knights prepare for battle

IT may still only be May but the first piece of domestic silverware is already up for grabs '“ and there will be a Yorkshire team who emerge victorious.

Keighley Cougars v York City Knights: Danny Lawton and Jonny Presley.

League 1 rivals Keighley Cougars and York City Knights go head-to-head for the iPRO Sport Cup at the Summer Bash in Blackpool this lunchtime.

Keighley’s preparations have not been ideal; their seven-game winning run came to an end as they fell for only the second time this season, losing 30-20 at London Skolars last week.

Keighley coach Paul March said: “It was disappointing how we played but credit to them, they took their opportunities.

“For us it was about putting down a marker for Saturday, individually and as a team,” he said.

“I think some individuals let themselves down and ultimately that will cost them a place in the 17 for the final.

“What we need to do is look at what we did; it’s all about re-actions now.”

March will be mindful their only other defeat was a 30-20 loss at York earlier this campaign while the Knights were impressive when prospering 36-4 at Newcastle Thunder last weekend.

“I think it’s pretty clichéd for coaches to say it’s just a another game but it’s not; it’s a final,” said York coach James Ford.

“The players have worked really hard to get there and they deserve the opportunity to compete for that trophy.

“We’re all excited, the players and the coaches, but when it comes to game day we’ll just focus on the little things in our performance that has seen us be pretty successful thus far.

“Keighley have got some good players and their pride will be dented after last week’s defeat,” he added,
