It's a pretty tough job...

Dairy farming is 196th in a list of 200 jobs in descending order of desirability, compiled by an American recruitment agency (www.careercast.com).

The agency appears to have made a reasonably serious stab at rating jobs scientifically, on the basis of rewards, prospects, physical demands, mental stress, average hours and so on, and comes up with a Top 10 starting with actuary – insurance risk assessor – followed by software engineer, computer systems analyst, biologist and historian.

At the bottom end of the table, dairy farming is rated just better than being a lumberjack, a roustabout (oilfield labourer) or an ironworker, but below collecting garbage or driving cabs.
