Jeffries returns to a Bulls side in need of boost to lift their fortunes

BRADFORD Bulls give Ben Jeffries his ‘second’ debut tomorrow hoping the former player can make an instant impact.

The Australian half-back, 30, comes straight in at Hull KR having joined a week ago from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Jeffries featured heavily at Odsal between 2007 and 2009 after initially arriving from Belle Vue and they currently require his vast experience again given injuries to principal playmakers Brett Kearney and Marc Herbert. Bradford, who are also bolstered by the return from injury of key forwards Jamie Langley and Matt Diskin, are toiling in 11th, just above fellow strugglers Rovers, so both sides need a win to kick-start their play-off push as the season enters the halfway mark.

Bradford assistant coach Francis Cummins, said: “He (Jeffries) has already made a difference in the training sessions he’s had.”

Three of Rovers’ four wins so far have come at their Craven Park home, including a success over Leeds, but their ex-Bradford second-row Matt Cook realises they must improve.

“We’ve not quite executed here or there, or not quite been squeaky clean in some aspects of our defence,” he said.

Huddersfield Giants coach Nathan Brown thinks his high-flying side’s performance against St Helens will show whether they can fulfil their potential.

“Beating the top sides is key and St Helens will come here with plenty of internationals right through their side,” he said.
