Justin Morgan: Battle for top-eight places likely to go right down to the wire

Hull Kingston Rovers tonight look to complete a Super League double over champions Leeds Rhinos at Craven Park. Rovers coach Justin Morgan gives his thoughts ahead of the game.

I'm looking forward to tonight's game against the champions. They have been the benchmark in Super League for a long time now and the games have always been reasonably good battles between Rovers and Rhinos.

Both teams are taking some decent form into the game, we have been fairly competitive in the last month or so, and it all points to a good match.

Getting the double would be nice, but more importantly at this time of year are the two points. Not many teams could boast getting a double over Leeds, that would be wonderful.

Although I think they have improved dramatically since we beat them at Headingley at the beginning of the season, I would like to think we have improved as well. It should be a good match.

That Headingley game seems an eternity ago, so we haven't really spoken about completing the double in the dressing room.

When the champions come to town, everyone wants to watch them and, from our point of view, we want to play well against them. I'm expecting a big atmosphere, the TV cameras will be there, and being a night game usually adds to it, so, hopefully, a few people will head down the M62 from Leeds and add to the atmosphere.

By our own admission, our away form has been a little bit scratchy this year, so it was pleasing to come through unbeaten in our last two games.

We had two fairly tough away games – against Huddersfield, who are above us in the table and who had beaten us convincingly in the cup and league. It was always going to be a tough game but we were maybe unlucky not to get both points that night.

That probably stoked our confidence a little bit, and last weekend against Wakefield – who always seem to play well against us – we put in another terrific performance.

I think the final eight teams for the play-off positions will not be decided until the penultimate or last weekend of the season.

We have to play Bradford still, but, hopefully, by the time we do we will be clear of them in the play-offs. I would rather be in our position than the chasing pack at the moment.

It will be difficult, but it's an objective of ours to make the play-offs, and, when we get there, to give a better account of ourselves than what we did last year.

Our neighbours, Hull FC, have recruited well, most probably flew under the radar a little bit at the start of the season, and have played some good stuff.

We have them next week in the derby and that will be another battle royale. They will be extra determined to do well after missing out on the play-offs last year. I expected them to make the final eight.

The catalyst for Warrington was probably winning the Challenge Cup. They have always had an excellent roster and this season have played really well – we were lucky to take some points off them.

We have beaten some good teams this season and, hopefully, we can continue that for the remainder of the year.

We have had some stand-out performers recently. Captain Mick Vella's leadership has been excellent and Peter Fox and Ben Cockayne have also been superb for the club in the last month or so.
