Keighley Cougars 32 York City Knights 6: Knights beaten as Cougars progress

KEIGHLEY Cougars made it through to the semi-finals despite a spirited effort from York City Knights.

Cougars head coach Barry Eaton said afterwards: "Since I have been at the club we have not qualified this far in the competition and it is a massive achievement."

Keighley were off the mark on two minutes with a penalty for off-side, Danny Jones sailing the ball over the posts.

It was all Cougars from then on and their persistence paid off when they got over the line on 15 minutes as Tom Sheldrake pounced on Jonny Presley's grubber kick. Jones landed a great goal from just inside touch to extend their lead to 8-0.

The Knights reduced the deficit when Chris Thorman sent the ball between the legs of Craig Moss and Matty Duckworth dived on it for the touchdown. Lee Waterman added the extras.

With a minute to go before the interval Keighley went over again, when Jamaine Wray forced his way over for Jones to strike an easy goal.

A breakaway try from Daley Williams, converted by Jones, took Keighley's lead to 20-6 after the break.
