Keighley Cougars 46 South Wales Scorpions 26: Demetriou unhappy despite seeing Cougars romp to easy triumph

Keighley Cougars racked up a fourth straight win to boost confidence ahead of a daunting Challenge Cup clash with current Super League leaders Warrington Wolves.

Jason Demetriou’s side have earlly-season leadership ambitions of their own after they cruised past South Wales Scorpions to move to within three points of Championship One leaders Swinton.

It was just the fillip Cougars needed ahead of next week’s daunting showdown against Tony Smith’s high-fliers.

But Demetriou was still not entirely happy following the convicning victory.

“It was a good result and we scored some good tries,” said the former Wakefield star.

“But we bombed three or four good opportunities in the second half, so the scoreline should’ve been around 60 and that would have made us a little happier.

“Our edge defence let us down again so that’s still a work in progress.

“Our right-edge needs to defend a lot better.

“It wasn’t good at Rochdale but they improved last week and I gave them a pat on the back.

“But, this week we slipped again.”

Richard Jones and Aled James exchanged tries to leave the teams tied at 6-6 after only 10 minutes before Andrew Gay’s try gave Scorpions their only lead of the game.

James Hutchinson touched down to put Keighley back on level terms and Demetriou was in the right place at the right time to edge his side back in front.

Lee Williams pulled another try back for the visitors but Cougars went on to dominate, Gavin Duffy scoring before Demetriou grabbed his second.
