Keighley Cougars 6 Featherstone Rovers 24: Cougars punished in late Rovers charge

FEATHERSTONE Rovers may have won on paper, but it certainly doesn't reflect the 80 minutes witnessed.

It looked like the Cougars would hold their own against the league leaders but Daryl Powell's team dug deep in the final quarter to snatch the game.

Barry Eaton's team have five games remaining to try and pull it out of the bag.

The Cougars' Danny Jones reached the half century in his personal scoring tally and has beaten former player John Wasyliw's record of scoring points in 46 consecutive games.

Both teams failed to put any points on the board until the final few minutes of the first half when Cougars picked up two points through a Jones penalty after Rovers were penalised for a high tackle.

Kyle Briggs put the visitors in the lead when he received the ball from the acting half-back to go in at the corner flag. Briggs converted as Rovers changed ends at 6-2.

Cougars' Brendon Rawlins had a try disallowed when he knocked on before Jamaine Wray was also denied four points when his try was judged offside.

Despite the home side testing the defence they only managed to score once early in the second half through Rawlins.

Rovers however, took control of the game with tries from Andy Kain, a second from Briggs and one from Zak Hardaker. Briggs tagged goals on to all.
