Keighley raise tempo after interval and cruise to win which lifts them to second

Keighley Cougars moved into second spot in Kingstone Press League One with a fourth straight win.

The rearranged fixture followed the match between the sides in May when Danny Jones collapsed and died of a suspected cardiac arrest.

To avoid Cougars having to return to the scene of the fateful day, yesterday’s match took place at Hemel Stags’ stadium, where Jones achieved his landmark 1,000th point for the club.

Winger Andy Gabriel opened the scoring for Keighley with a neat finish and centre Hamish Barnes soon added a second.

The Skolars replied through Mike Bishay after some awful defending and Keighley led 10-4 at the break.

Dave Williams then powered over and Bishay converted to make it 10-10 before Keighley upped the tempo and scored five second-half tries.

Rikki Sheriffe and Liam Darville touched down and Brendon Rawlins went over before scores from Gabriel and Paul White made the game safe. John Paxton’s late try was mere consolation for the Skolars.
