YORK City Knights stayed on course for a top-four finish in Championship One thanks to a try by Jack Lee three minutes from time.

The hooker dummied and jinked and somehow got through to touch down the winner to sink Workington.

The Knights had trailed 10-0 just before the hour mark but hit back with two tries for a 12-10 lead, only to see the game go away from them again when Jarrad Stack scored the try of the match with eight minutes to go.

At this point, it seemed decisions by Dave Merrick to rule out three York tries would prove costly until Lee came up with the match-breaker.

The Cumbrians had their own complaints as they too had a try ruled out and had second-row Mike Whitehead sin-binned.

Merrick's first big decision was to rule out Chris Thorman's second-minute effort, before Town took the lead through hooker Jack Pedley. Darren Holt converted and added a penalty either side of half-time.

Danny Allan had a try disallowed after the break before Mike Mitchell finally got York on the board from Thorman's pass. Then, with Town down to 12 men, Steve Lewis put the hosts ahead, though Workington claimed he failed to ground the ball.

Stack struck back but Lee, with Ratcliffe adding his third goal, had the last word.
