Langley makes winning debut for Sheffield

A pedestrian performance by Sheffield Eagles was enough to take them past Oldham.

Menzie Yere gave Sheffield a first-minute lead and Scott Turner added a second but the momentum ebbed away.

With former Bradford star Jamie Langley off the bench for his debut, Sheffield settled the game with tries from Michael Knowles and Duane Straugheir either side of a score for Oldham from Mick Learmonth, converted by Lewis Palfrey. Quentin Laulu-Togagae’s try gave a 30-6 margin at the break with Pat Walker kicking four of his six goals.

Rob Worrincy and Steve Thorpe increased the lead but Oldham’s readiness to throw the ball about produced tries from Adam Clay and Josh Crowley.

Thorpe claimed his second but Oldham finished strongly with Crowley forcing his way over.
