Late hero Hall feels Bulls' spirit was vital in comeback

BRADFORD BULLS' match-winner Glenn Hall believes the squad's desire to succeed is beyond question following their incredible comeback win against Wigan Warriors.

They were 20-0 down at half-time against the unbeaten Engage Super League leaders on Friday night but rallied to produce a remarkable victory.

Hall powered over in the 79th minute to level the contest and Matt Orford converted to deliver the Bulls a stunning 22-20 success.

"Once in a blue moon you're in a situation like that," said the second row, who scored his first try since moving from Manly Sea Eagles. "We shouldn't have put ourselves in that position to have to come back from 20-0 down but the effort and determination in the second half was awesome.

"It's hard to dig deep and find the energy. We could easily have packed up shop and gone to sleep and let them run away with it but full credit to the boys."

Bradford had been booed off at half-time with recent memories of their 38-6 home thrashing by St Helens no doubt in supporters' minds.

But instead of capitulating like had three weeks earlier, Steve McNamara's squad stepped up and turned the contest around, underlining they are improving as they secured their best start in three years.

"We'd been giving away silly penalties and dropped a lot of ball but we fixed up those errors," added Hall. "We worked through the middle of ruck, got some quick play the balls and got Wigan on the back foot.

"Our smaller blokes started running out of dummy half and their big guys couldn't handle it. We were marching them down the field. We got the bit between the teeth, knuckled down for a good battle and showed we can do that.

"I was just pretty fortunate to be in the right spot in the right time to get that try."

The Manly connection saw Bradford home, Hall barging over off former Sea Eagles team-mate Heath L'Estrange's pass.

But it was the third Manly player who arrived at Odsal over the winter – scrum-half Orford – who began the fightback, having a hand in Brett Kearney's opening try and then darting over for two scores himself.

After a shaky first-half, Orford, 31, delivered the sort of performance that made him a legend in the NRL and Hall admitted: "Oxy's a class player.

"If we've got the boys around him pushing and really working hard for him he showed what he can do. He's really dangerous not only with but without the ball directing our play.

"It was just great to get the win and pleasing, especially in front of our home crowd, with the effort the boys put in that second half. To get that relief and joy and see all the boys going up in arms was brilliant but it's massively important to get a roll on now.

"We've won three in a row and go to Warrington on Saturday. They're one of the form sides and are big and physical but we need to back up what we did in that second half versus Wigan."
